Why it Works

Also known as "True Cinnamon", this botanical species originates from Sri Lanka and contains considerably higher levels of key essential oils than are present in Chinese Cinnamon (AKA Cassia). Premium organic "True Cinnamon" shares similar clinical properties with Chinese Cassia, but has 10x less coumarins than Cassia and is therefore more safe.

According to a 2006 study, cinnamaldehyde is a constituent that has been studied in both Cinnamon species, but is higher in the "True Cinnamon."  Both cinnamaldehyde and eugenol, also found in Cloves, are responsible for the potent antioxidant activity in "True Cinnamon."  Eugenol has been found to provide the highest Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) of all food-borne substances. Therefore, "True Cinnamon" is a superior antioxidant by this assumption.
