This leaf is suitable for the following preparations:
Oregano is derived from the Greek words oros and ganos, literally meaning "mountain joy” due to the fact that this herb covers the mountainous areas in Greece. The Greeks and Romans used it topically as a poultice for everything from aches to spider bites. Once this was introduced in the United States this topical use continued but the essential oil was used. It was also used internally for respiratory and digestive support. Being the primary culinary herb in many Mediterranean cuisines, it is famous for its distinctive flavor and versatility in many dishes.
Concerns for this herb are based upon therapeutic use and may not be relevant to its consumption as a culinary seasoning. Keep out of reach of children. Not recommended for use while pregnant or nursing, until further research verifies no contraindications. Discontinue if unusual symptoms occur.
Avoid use in individuals with a known allergy to Oregano and possibly other herbs from the Lamiaceae family including Hyssop, Basil, Marjoram, Mint, Sage, and Lavender.
