Background and Use
Flax seed is a rich source of the essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid, which is a biologic precursor to omega-3 fatty acids. The lignan constituent of Flax seed is an antioxidant with other possible estrogen receptor properties that need further investigation.
Precautions
Not recommended for use if you have a narrowed esophagus or GI tract, or if you have bowel obstruction. Ingestion of Flax seed without adequate fluids may precipitate bowel obstruction.
