Suggested Use

Take 1 mL three times daily in warm water or juice. 1 mL = approx. 40 drops.

Background and Use

Eleuthero is recognized as being a gentle alternative to Panax Ginseng. Eleuthero is used during times of stress and is especially notable as an immune tonic in the middle aged and elderly.

Eleuthero was the first herb to be classified as an adaptogen by Russian scientists and was therefore the model for all future research on this group of herbs. An Adaptogen is a substance that helps the body adapt to various types of stress. In order to achieve this status a plant must meet the following criteria:

  1. It must be safe.
  2. It must also have a broad-spectrum, normalizing action that brings an organism back to homeostasis.
  3. It must produce a nonspecific response in the body.
In the late ‘60's and ‘70's multiple studies of this herb were conducted in healthy people and Eleuthero was found to increase the ability of subjects to withstand stress (from heat, noise, exercise and increase in workload). Subjects also experienced increases in mental alertness and work output. As a result of this research, Eleuthero was being used by Russian athletes and astronauts to prepare them for their events.

Precautions

Not recommended for use during pregnancy or while nursing, until further research verifies no contraindications. Not recommended for long-term use without periodic breaks. Keep out of reach of children. Discontinue if unusual symptoms occur. Do not exceed recommended dose unless under the guidance of a health care professional.
