Background and Use

Native to Egypt, Cumin was a spice and an ingredient used to mummify pharaoh’s.  The cultivation of this spice spread to the Middle East, India, China and Mediterranean countries through the ages, and is now used globally in cuisines everywhere.  It is especially popular in Latin America, North Africa and all over Asia.  Cumin seeds have traditionally been noted to be of benefit to the digestive system, and preliminary scientific research has shown that Cumin may stimulate digestive enzymes.  As with many other spices and herbs it has antioxidant properties to protect the body from free radicals.  Further research is warranted.
