Bulk Herbs and Tea Blends
Bulk
herbs from Oregon’s Wild Harvest are dried immediately
upon harvest, and include all the most valuable parts of the
plant. Like most of our herbal products, our bulk herbs are
pesticide-free, Non-GMO, grown with care, guaranteed pure, and
mostly organic.
Our carefully selected and handled tea blends offer immediate
comfort and profound therapeutic powers. We are particularly
proud of the freshness and flavor offered by each of our bulk
herbs and tea blends. We use only the most effective parts of
the finest quality plants, then add just enough natural flavor
enhancers to make even the bitterest herbs taste good. Our
natural herbal teas are pleasing to the body, mind, eye,
and palate.

Our Vegetarian Capsules
Our vegetarian capsules are composed of pullulan, a natural,
water-soluble polysaccharide produced from corn through fermentation
processes. Pullulan, used widely as a functional additive in
food, pharmaceutical, and consumer products applications, is
a source of soluble fiber. We are proud to be one of the few
companies in the world to offer these capsules, which are starch-free,
gluten-free, GMO-free, preservative-free, Halal and Kosher certified.
As an added benefit, the new capsules also provide the lowest
oxygen permeability on the market, which means that our high
quality encapsulated herbs will stay fresher, longer.
After harvest, our herbs are dried, powdered and promptly
encapsulated in these vegetarian capsules. Immediate processing
helps maintain active plant ingredients, especially the volatile
oils and tannins—notorious for degradation by oxidation.
All our capsules are easily absorbable and quickly dissolve,
making them one of the most convenient means of consuming herbs.

Our Organic Alcohol Extracts
We prepare our organic alcohol extracts using only Certified
Organic or ecologically wild-crafted plant material, organic
grain alcohol and water. Production begins when the herb is
fresh and succulent, and the plant’s cells are full of
life, capable of releasing the many active constituents available.
The concentration of fresh plant material used in fluid extracts
is expressed as a weight : volume ratio, taking into account
the moisture content of the individual plant. For example, if
herb strength is 1:2, one part herb is extracted with 2 parts
solvent (alcohol and water, as needed). A moisture assay is
done on every extract, as growing conditions (and resulting
moisture content) can change daily.
The organic alcohol used in our herbal extracts fulfills two
purposes: 1) as a natural preservative to extend shelf-life,
and 2) as the most effective solvent available for extracting
and concentrating the naturally occurring bioactive plant constituents
(such as volatile oils, resins, and alkaloids).
How much alcohol? The amount of alcohol used in each extract
varies (from 22-85%) depending upon the specific herb being
extracted and its individual content of alcohol-soluble and
water-soluble constituents.
A broad guideline as to how much alcohol consumed with an
average serving:
30 drops of extract with an alcohol content of 45-50% equates
to 1/65 of a 12 oz. beer, or 1/85 of an 8 oz. glass of wine.
If you are sensitive to alcohol, simply add the extract to a
small amount of steaming hot water, and let steep for 5 minutes
– approximately 65% of the alcohol will evaporate.

Alcohol-Free Glycerites
An alternative to alcohol-based extracts are
alcohol-free glycerites. Oregon’s Wild Harvest glyercites
are made by first processing plant material with alcohol to
capture the essence of the plant. All the alcohol is then removed
using a state-of-the-art distilling system which preserves the
herb’s integrity. Naturally sweet, pure, kosher vegetable
glycerin is added as a base and preservative.
We have formulated this line of
alcohol-free glycerite products for adults, and especially
for children. These tasty herbal remedies are well tolerated
by the fussiest customer!
Vegetable Glycerin (USP/NF grade, Kosher)
Glycerol or Glycerin is a colorless, odorless, calorie-free,
sweet-tasting 'alcohol' that is used as a carrier in our alcohol
free liquid extracts. Of the annual glycerol production in the
U.S., about 40 percent is manufactured as a by-product of soap
manufacturing. The rest is synthesized from the petroleum products
such as propylene, or by the catalytic action of hydrogen on
sugar at high temperature and pressure. Glycerol is important
in the preparation of drugs and toiletries, including tooth-pastes
and as a moistening agent in tobacco products.
The glycerin used by Oregon's Wild Harvest is pharmaceutical
grade and is derived from vegetable material (palm oil) and
not from petroleum products. We use it because it has the ability
to mix with many substances. It imparts a sweet taste to our
Alcohol-Free Extracts and some of our specialty formulas (especially
the Elixirs). This sweet property makes it particularly appealing
for use in children's products and is appreciated by those who
cannot tolerate the taste of some unpalatable herbs. Most importantly,
it is safe and readily digested into the body, making it a very
efficient carrier.
Despite its sweetness, glycerin is processed by the body as
fat (not sugar), which is important for those limiting their
sugar intake, such as diabetics and children.
Grapefruit Seed Extract
Grapefruit seed extract is a natural, non-toxic preservative.
It is used in place of synthetic preservatives such as propylparaben
and methylparaben, which are sometimes used in liquid products
made by other dietary supplement manufacturers. The 'parabens'
are all synthetic preservatives that are known to be local irritants,
and may cause an allergic sensitization to antibiotics or corticosteroids
due to their wide use in products.
Fruit Concentrates
These flavors give our products a unique richness and depth
of flavor since they represent the whole fruit instead of just
an isolated flavor compound. Many manufacturers use these isolated
compounds for flavoring, which may be naturally derived, or
be completely artificial.
-
Therapeutic Herbal Oils
We select herbs for their beneficial effects on the skin,
and then combine them with organic olive oil. This extra virgin,
unrefined, pure, monounsaturated oil is derived from the first
pressing of the olives, and has not been subjected to additional
chemical or physical processing. The herbal oils can be used
topically, or when combined with other ingredients, can serve
as a base for herbal salves.
-
Specialty Formulas
These are very unique products that are in a category of their
own. Salves, eardrops and various elixirs support many mild
health concerns.
