Women's Herbs

Since the era of hunter-gatherers, our female ancestors have gathered and used various herbal remedies. The female body is in a continual state of change whether it is menstruating, pregnant, nursing, or menopausal. To augment this dynamic fluctuation, there are many herbs that can support a woman's well-being during these transitions.

About Natural Phytoestrogens

Many herbs targeted especially for women contain phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogen is the term used for a plant constituent with a similar chemical structure to estrogen, or one that becomes similar once it is digested. Optimally, the body manufactures its own supply of this hormone, referred to as endogenous estrogen. Phytoestrogens, although weaker than endogenous estrogens, bind to estrogen receptor sites, thereby decreasing estrogenic activity when it is too high. Conversely, when endogenous estrogen activity is too low, phytoestrogens can be used to support overall estrogen levels. This balancing capability results from the weak estrogenic activity of phytoestrogens and is why a single herb can be used to treat conditions of either excess or deficiency of natural estrogens.
