Background and Use
This herb has traditionally been used by Native South Americans. It was brought to Europe in the 16th Century by Spanish explorers from Peru. Passionflower is most commonly used in combination with other herbal products such as Hawthorn (
Crategeus spp.) and Valerian (
Valeriana officinalis L.), with similar purported clinical applications, making the evaluation of its efficacy difficult.
