Ingredients: Lutein from Marigold flowers (Tagetes erecta), Zeaxanthin from Marigold flowers (Tagetes erecta), organic Bilberry fruit (Vaccinium myrtillus), organic Ginkgo leaf (Ginkgo biloba)

As an herbal supplement, take two capsules daily with food.
Risk of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is significantly higher in people with low concentrations of carotenoids such as Zeaxanthin and Lutein in their blood.
This formula supplies a 5:1 ratio of Lutein:Zeaxanthin which is the ratio that is found naturally in many fruits and vegetables, and is formulated to match the Lutein and Zeaxanthin quantity that is being used in the current AREDS II study, sponsored by the National Eye Institute. This large study is a collaboration of over 80 participating research centers.
Documented cases of Bilberry show its use back in the 12th and again in the 18th century. Bilberry has also been traditionally used as a nutritional supplement in the treatment or prevention of scurvy, due to its vitamin C content. The modern use of bilberry in the treatment of various visual disorders dates to World War II. British Royal Air Force pilots reported that the ingestion of Bilberry jam just prior to missions seemed to improve their vision. Modern research now focuses on the anthocyanins in this fruit.
Ginkgo has been reported to improve ocular (eye) blood flow and to act as an antioxidant to protect the eye. Additional clinical research is needed to better determine the effectiveness of Ginkgo for macular degeneration.
Individuals taking anticoagulant medication should consult with their health care professional before taking supplements containing Ginkgo. Discontinue use two weeks prior to scheduled surgery or dental procedures and inform surgeon. Do not take if pregnant or nursing. Although rare, some people may experience headaches or mild gastrointestinal discomfort when taking Ginkgo. Discontinue use if unusual symptoms occur. Keep out of reach of children.
Please visit our Prescription Drugs and Medications Index for a listing of all contraindicated Blood Thinners and Anticoagulants.
Avoid use in individuals with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to Ginkgo or members of the Ginkgoaceae family.
