Background and Use
The root properties have been described to be "like a Band-Aid®" due to its Velcro®-like hairs. Its traditional name, knitbone, is derived from its ability to "knit together tissues". It is also known as bruisewort, for its ability to reduce swelling and bruising. Preliminary studies of the topical application of Comfrey-containing creams have found significant reductions in inflammation and pain associated with sprains and muscle injuries.
