Items That Can Be Made Into Decoctions
This preparation method is used for the more robust/woody parts of the plant such as root, stem, seed or fruit. The reason for the added cooking time is that these tougher plant parts need a longer cooking time to release the potential healing benefits.
Directions
- Use one ounce (3 tablespoons) of dried herb to 3 cups of boiling water.
- Add to saucepan and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Let steep for a further 10 minutes.
- Strain and enjoy hot or cold, with or without honey.
