Proper Green Tea
Green Tea is a wonderful healthy drink. As an avid black tea drinker, I didn't understand why the green tea that I brewed always tasted so bitter and strong. I eventually found out that I was preparing it incorrectly! Who knew that a Brit would have to learn how to make tea!!!!
There are many elaborate and complicated tea ceremony methods available, but there are 3 basic rules:
- Green tea needs to be brewed in water that has been allowed to cool for a bit after boiling. Ideally this should be between around 180° F (85 °C).
- Do not let it brew too long. Green tea shouldn't be steeped for more than 2 1/2 minutes.
- Use a teapot rather than a tea ball or filter. Green tea needs room to expand in the water.
Directions- Boil water.
- Once boiled, let the water sit for about 5 minutes so that it cools slightly.
- Warm the teapot with the boiled water.
- Add the tea. Use about 1 teaspoon Green Tea per 3 small tea cups (12 oz of water).
- Add the water, stir, cover and let it brew for no more than 2 ½ minutes.
- Strain and pour into cups.
- Sweeten if desired with your favorite sweetener.
- Drink hot or cold.
