GMO's and Dietary Supplements

What exactly are GMO's and why should I be concerned about ingesting products that contain them? We get this question from many consumers, and it is a valid and growing concern. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are organisms whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. This manipulation of DNA molecules is being used in both the plant and animal kingdom with the objective of altering, and potentially improving certain traits. In the plant world, the goal is often to produce crops that are faster growing, more disease resistant, and produce greater yields.

However the use of GMOs has created considerable debate in the food and supplement industry. The long range effects on human consumption of these products, the indiscriminate cross-pollination of GMO and non-GMO crops, and the overall potential for negative effects to both humans and the environment cause major concerns about this manipulation of natural biological processes.

Like all health-conscious consumers, Oregon's Wild Harvest carefully selects the ingredients we use in all our products. We are one of the few companies that encapsulates our herbs exclusively in GMO-free NP capsules. We also avoid the use of certain ingredients if they contain GMO's. Many supplements contain excipients (fillers, lubricants, processing agents) and vitamins which are derived from food commodities such as GE (genetically engineered) soy and GE corn.

Our goal is to create GMO-free products that are in their purest and most natural state.
